Asteroid Sappho

8/15/2017

Picture
Asteroid Sappho #80 is one of the first named after a real person in history. Sappho was a poet and writer born around 600 B.C. who resided on the island of Lesbos. She left a body of work that remains only partially intact due to the censoring she has received throughout history. She is known for being a lesbian and leader of local women. She advocated for education among females and formed a young women's academy for fine arts where she taught poetry and verse. She was not afraid to be herself and even had the audacity to advertise her true thoughts and actions. What a woman she must have been! A genius and rare flower in her own time. Love poetry and lyrical verse were the living archetype's specialty. She was most talented at invoking feelings of love and attraction with her words and prose. Sappho was a charmer. Depicted in open, flowering robes with a half smile, she appears most comfortable in her own skin and, well... HOT! Sappho was all about the excitement of attraction and she was not ashamed of much.

In a birth chart, Sappho represents artisitic aptitude, especially where words are concerned. The act of displaying one's true sexual character is an element of Sappho, the right to do as one sensually pleases. Poetry, access to one's feminine side, Libido, and how we connect words with sensuality are what this asteroid is about.

In Aspect to Mercury, we see potential for a romantic mind and the creation of poetry--a natural love poet.

In synastry, ,Sappho is one of the more potent asteroids that point to attraction. Love is not so much a part of the expression of this entity as plain old, hot attraction is. Sappho is a hard one to deny. The personal planets--Sun through Mars--are the most intense when in Aspect to another's Sappho. All contacts will increase attraction, but in their own unique ways. Flirtatious interaction is a big part of Sappho in synastry!

What about when Sappho is retrograde? Do retrogrades affect asteroids similarly to planets?

And also, what about if Sappho is in aspect to the North node?

Thanks for all this info on asteroid Sappho and all the others! There's not as much info about asteroids on the Web as there is on planets.
